Stand Up

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today, we gather to reflect upon a powerful passage from the book of Ezekiel, Chapter 2, verses 1 to 5. In this passage, the Lord speaks directly to the prophet Ezekiel, commanding him to stand up and receive His words. “He said to me, ‘Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.’ As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.” This divine encounter is not only a moment of calling for Ezekiel but also a timeless message for all who seek to follow God’s path.

When God commands Ezekiel to stand up, He is calling him to a position of readiness and attention. This act of standing is symbolic or preparation and courage. In our own lives, we often face moments when we are called to stand up—against injustice, for our faith, or in support of those who cannot stand for themselves. The Spirit that entered Ezekiel and raised him to his feet is the same Spirit that empowers us today. We are not alone in our calling; God’s Spirit equips us with the strength and resolve needed to fulfill His will.

Furthermore, God sends Ezekiel to speak to the Israelites, a rebellious nation. This task is daunting, but God reassures Ezekiel that his duty is to deliver the message, regardless of how it is received. “Whether they listen or fail to listen—for they are a rebellious people—they will know that a prophet has been among them.” In our journey, we, too, may encounter resistance and apathy. Yet, our responsibility lies in our faithfulness to God’s call, not in the outcome. Let us be encouraged by Ezekiel’s example to stand up, speak God’s truth with love, and trust in His divine purpose.

May we all find the courage to stand up, be empowered by the Holy Spirit, and be unwavering in our commitment to God’s mission. Amen.
