Summer Camp
Missionary’s
On May 7, 2011 I graduated from Chowan University with my Bachelors degree in psychology. Anytime that I graduate or host an event my family turns out, this day was no different. My mother, daddy, sister, one brother and his daughter were at my graduation along with my grandma, my grandpa, 6 aunties and 10+ cousins attended my graduation. It is without saying that I love my family and I’m thankful for their support.
During my time at Chowan, I felt like I didn’t belong because of what people have said to me over the years; however, God gets the glory for this victory. With The trials and tribulations from my undergrad experience, I wanted to help children, youth and young adults to tap into their God-given potential. The Summer of 2011, I became an AmeriCorps VISTA. This program allowed me to work with a local nonprofit in Laurinburg North Carolina called Partners In Ministry. Partners In Ministry hosted summer camps around Scotland County, Richmond County, and Robeson County, Maxton is in Robeson County. The first year that I worked with Partners In Ministry, I was the director of a Summer Camp in Maxton that had around 85 children between the age of 4 to 12 years old participate in the summer camp, I managed around 17 adult volunteers and around 10 junior volunteers.
This experience opened the possibility for me for me work in the nonprofit world. However, I felt God calling me into full time ministry. I honestly gave that all kinds of excuses like God I’m not an eloquent speaker, God I’m too young God, I come from a small town, and I’m not that smart. Why, God are you calling me?
Over the years God showed me why I have been called to the church and everyday it’s a great opportunity to live into my calling.
On Tuesday, July 5 – My nonprofit Making Way started a Summer Camp for our community. Making Ways is found by my sister Julianna Mitchell and I. I’m excited about what this organization is going to turn into.
Update on my Tiny Home:
On July 1, 2022 we officially moved into our new home. We have two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and living/office. Mo’Rissa is enjoying her new home. We had a difficult time transitioning because she did not understand what was happening to her toys. Now that she can see them again, she is better. We are still working on the bathroom, water and kitchen. Please pray for me as I need to let go of a lot of things.
