Coming Home with Purpose: A New Chapter at Historic St. George UMC

I am filled with gratitude and joy as I share the news that I have been appointed as the Senior Pastor of Historic St. George United Methodist Church in Maxton, North Carolina—my beloved hometown.

To lead in the place that raised me is not just an assignment; it’s a calling. This is where I learned faith, where I first heard God’s voice, and where I was nurtured by a community that believed in me before I believed in myself. Now, I return not just with memories, but with a mission.

At St. George, I believe God is calling us to something powerful:

  • Community Engagement that extends beyond the church walls—meeting people where they are, partnering with local leaders, and addressing real-life needs with real-time compassion.
  • Spiritual Wellness that honors the whole person—mind, body, and soul—through worship, discipleship, and intentional care for every generation.
  • Digital Connection that keeps us rooted and relevant—using technology to reach our members, our young people, and even those who’ve never stepped foot inside a church.

My prayer is simple but bold: that St. George will be a hub of healing, hope, and Holy Spirit-led action. Whether you’re a lifelong member, a neighbor, or someone seeking purpose, you are welcome here. I want the very best for Maxton—not just because it’s my hometown, but because I believe God’s best is still ahead for this community.

Let’s build something together—something rooted in love, grounded in justice, and led by faith.

With love and expectation,
Rev. Marcharkelti McKenzie
