A New Chapter: Answering the Call to Serve at St. George UMC

Grace and peace to you, beloved community!

I’m humbled and filled with gratitude as I share the news of my new appointment: Beginning July 6, 2025, I will serve as the Pastor of St. George United Methodist Church in Maxton, North Carolina.

This new journey is especially meaningful because it brings together two things I deeply love: the Maxton community and The United Methodist Church. I consider it a divine gift to serve in a place that has long held a piece of my heart. Now, by the grace of God and the movement of the Spirit, I get to serve the people of Maxton not only with love, but also with leadership, vision, and deep commitment to the Gospel.

I currently serve as a licensed local pastor and am joyfully walking the path toward ordination as a Deacon in the North Carolina Conference. I earned my Master of Divinity from Gammon Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta in 2019—a journey that shaped and sharpened my call to be a bridge-builder, encourager, and servant-leader.

My prayer for this next season is simple but bold: that God will do a new thing in us, with us, and through us. I believe we can build something great together—rooted in faith, committed to justice, and overflowing with love.

To the people of St. George UMC, I am already praying for you. I can’t wait to learn your stories, worship beside you, and grow in Christ together. And to the Maxton community—I see you, I love you, and I’m coming home ready to serve.

Let’s see what God is up to—because I know it will be something beautiful.

With expectancy and joy,
Rev. Marcharkelti McKenzie
Licensed Local Pastor | NC Conference
Future Pastor of St. George UMC – Maxton, NC
