Communication has always been a crucial aspect of the development of humanity. It fosters understanding among people. The evolution of communication is an ongoing process. And as modern technology advances, man experiences a change in communication methods. Without communication, life would have been so difficult. It would have been impossible to solve problems, write, read, and understand.
Over the ages, man has used different communication tools to pass messages across: cave painting, smoke signals, carrier pigeons, postal systems, Newspapers, Radio, telegraph, telephone, television, email, text messages, internet, and social media. These are some of the communication tools man has used to foster understanding amongst each other, and it gets better and more efficient as the tools keep advancing.
In the era where carrier pigeons or where postal systems were used, it took days for information to reach its destination, but the method of communication kept advancing, and in this era that we have the internet and social media, it only takes seconds to pass a message across.
Organizations have invested in modern means of communication and they are enjoying the tremendous benefits it comes with. They don’t just get their message to reach a destination with amazing speed but are able to reach a larger audience.
The church has the primary mission to communicate God’s word, not just to a few people, but to the whole world, as we see in Mark 16:15. The mission is to the whole world and we cannot achieve that if we stick to the archaic means of communication. This message needs to be passed as quickly as possible and to a very large audience, and the internet is an effective way to do that. The internet is a platform that hosts the largest number of humans and that’s where these humans spend most of their time.
The benefits of the modern communication tool (internet) cannot be fully listed. For the church to catch up in this time, they need to stay with the flow. They need to leverage the power of modern technology for effective communicating.
Imagine a man who resides to using carrier pigeons to send messages across in this era. It just won’t work. If it were to be a competition, his bird will still be in the air and someone with the internet will send the same message to 100 million people. The church needs to catch up or we’ll be left behind. And that’s what the devil wants — For our message not to reach the whole world. Should we give in to the devil? Even God will not be pleased.
Don’t let the world say, “Finally, we lost them.” Irrespective of the size of your church, you should utilize these different communication tools. Always remember that you are in the business of communication.
