The following blog is written when I was 26 years old and living in Mobile Al. At this time, I was a UMC Global Mission Fellow Missionary and my job was to share God’s love with the community. Please let me know what you think. We are still working on our tiny home also below you will see photos from my mission experience and my tiny home update.
I am a Global Mission Fellow, Missionary and I am 26 years old with no kids and single. The one question people ask me is: why are you living your life in the church? I would say because I’m called to working in ministry.
Most people go to college then a full time job and then marriage/kids. But I did not see my life like that…. In college I only dated two men, one my freshman year and one my junior year. My junior year boyfriend could had moved into marriage but life did not push it that way. But I am in love and its with God’s people and working in ministry. Which makes me think about my motive and why I love ministry and God’s people.
In John 14:23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” That is my motive! My motive is to love and the motive of ministry is to love. My reward is not what the world can do for me or what I can do for the world; its about how I can use my gifts and talents to build God’s kingdom.
I remember growing up and feeling like no one loved me, I was fat, ugly and slow. I remember the feeling of isolation and hopelessness because it seem like no one cared. As I got older and began talking to people I got the overwhelming feeling that I wasn’t that different after all. With the help of mentors and true friends I am able to lift my head up and look myself in the mirror and be about my Father’s business.
That’s who or what I want to be to someone in the world. Be motivating, encouraging and life changing. I shall not lie, being in ministry is not easy but it’s easier to be in the ministry than it is to be in the world because I know for sure one person has my back.
In the next two months I am working with a homeless campaign and developing a youth department. I’m praying that God will walk through me and the people around me so that things will go as needed……
